User setup of Android work owned phone for use with Microsoft InTune mobile device management

How does an end-user configure a new or factory reset work-owned Android phone for use with Microsoft InTune mobile device management?

Pre-requisites

  • End user has been assigned a new or factory reset, work-owned Android smart phone
  • End user has been assigned a Microsoft InTune license (either standalone or part of another license such as Microsoft 365 Business Premium)
  • Microsoft InTune needs to have been configured by your IT department
  • Microsoft InTune should be configured for Android enrollment for "Corporate-owned, fully managed user devices"

Answer

Step 1

Power on the phone.  The phone will cycle through mutliple languages.  There is no need to wait to see your language.  Click the blue button with the white text.  In this example click "Start"


 

Step 2

Select the appropriate language and tap "Next".

 

Step 3

Review and accept the agreements and tap "Next".

 

Step 4

Review and agree the permissions (tap "More" to see all permissions) and then tap "Agree"

 

Step 5

Select a WiFi network to join, enter the connection details.

 

Step 6

Choose "Don't copy".

 

Step 7

In the "Email or phone" box, enter "afw#setup" and tap "Next".

Tap "Next".

 

Step 9

Select "While using this app".

 

 

Step 10

Scan the QR code issued by your IT department.

 

Step 11

Review the notification regarding the access that your organisation will have to your phone and tap "Continue".

Review further info regarding the access that your organisation will have to your phone and tap "Next".

Review the notification and tap "OK".

 

Step 14

Review and agree the Google permissions (tap "More" to see all permissions) and then tap "Accept"

Review the "Welcome to Chrome" screen and tap "Accept & continue".

Sign in with Microsoft 365 details.

Tap "Set up" under "Set a screen lock" and follow the instructions to enter a new PIN for your phone.

Tap "Install" under "Install work apps" and when the "Required apps" have been installed tap "Done".

Tap "SIGN IN".  This should use the details entered earlier but if prompted use your Microsoft 365 details.

Tap "Register".

Remaining apps are installed and further policies may be applied so it may be a short while longer before the phone is fully useable.
